Omniscient Films is a Melbourne (Naarm) Based production company, specialising in genre filmmaking.

Founded by filmmaker Jonah Howell,Omniscient’s mission is to celebrate artful genre cinema, creating works that push the boundaries of the medium in distinctly Australian ways.

Genre, and specifically horror storytelling, are in the DNA of Australian cinema. Omniscient is proud to continue that rich tradition of filmmaking which helps us understand who we are as people.

    Writer/Director/Producer

    The key creative force behind Omniscient, Jonah is a Naarm based writer, director and producer.

    Jonah’s current filmmaking focus is in horror storytelling, using the genre to explore themes of guilt, identity and morality through a familiar framework.

    jONAH’S graduate SHORT FILM ‘vERMIN’, A black and white monster movie, premiered at the 2025 Monster Fest. His latest short ‘Rear View Mirror’, a surreal horror about a dinner shared between a young man who ran over a pedestrian and his victim’s mother, has recently been completed, eyeing a festival release for late 2026/early 2027.

  • Tom Armour

    Director of Photography

    Tom Armour is a Melbourne-based cinematographer with a love of natural light, expressive colour and images that stay with you after the credits roll.

    Equally fascinated by the technical craft and the artistic possibilities of cinematography, Tom is always experimenting, studying and refining his approach. Whether on narrative films, commercials or documentaries, he strives to create images that serve the story first, finding beauty in authenticity and emotion over spectacle.

    Tom was the director of photography on ‘Rear View Mirror’.

  • Bella Kent

    Production Designer

    Bella Kent is a filmmaker living and working in Naarm (Melbourne). With a background in fine arts, Bella combines her passions for visual arts and filmmaking in her production design style creating living art in the sets, props and costumes she creates for films.

    Bella was the production designer on ‘Rear View Mirror’.

  • Aaron Higgins

    Sound Designer

    Aaron Higgins is a Naarm based sound designer, sound recordist and musician. An audiophile with a penchant for creating atmosphere and world-building through his soundscapes, Aaron approaches sound as narrative unto itself, resulting in unique aural environments that compliment and juxtapose against picture.

    Aaron was the sound designer and sound recordist on ‘Rear View Mirror’ and ‘The Commute’.

  • Ed Kent

    Composer

    Ed Kent is a DJ, music Producer, Composer and Radio Host currently residing in Melbourne, Australia. His practice spans many shades of left-field and oddball sounds with a focus on two key realms: functional dance music and experimental/outsider sonics.

    As a composer, Ed has produced the original scores for both ‘Vermin’ and ‘Rear View Mirror’. With the latter film heavily featuring electronic dance music, it represents a melding of Ed’s practises as dance music producer and film composer.

  • Joshua Nguyen

    Director Of Photography/Colourist

    naarm-based cinematographer, gaffer, and colourist with experience across narrative, documentary, and commercial productions. graduated from collarts (australian college of the arts), and currently employed as gear coordinator at screen and media.

    Joshua was the director of photography on ‘The Commute’, and the colourist on ‘Vermin’, ‘Rear View Mirror’ and ‘The Commute’.
